The General Henry Knox Museum honors General Henry Knox - Revolutionary War hero, America’s first Secretary of War in President Washington’s cabinet, and one of Maine’s most prominent residents. Montpelier, his historically recreated Federal-style mansion, hosts tours, educational programs, and cultural events from Memorial Day thru Columbus Day. Guided tours of the elegant 19-room mansion highlight significant examples of 18th & 19th cenury decorative arts and original Knox family furnishings.

Maine's oldest maritime museum. One of New England's finest collections of furnishings, artifacts, ship models, paintings, photographs, and small boats. The museum is a great place to learn about Maine's maritime history, with exhibits and activities designed for children, families, and adults. Waldoboro was once host to shipyards which launched fleets of schooners in the great age of sail; a well-preserved village reflects that early prosperity. The best place to learn about this seafaring, fishing and farming community - settled by Germans in the mid-1700s - is at the Waldoborough Historical Society Museum, just off Route One on Route 220 South (Main Street).

Celebrating Maine's role in American art, the Farnsworth offers a nationally recognized collection from many of America's greatest artists. The museum houses the nation's second-largest collection of works by 20th-century sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C., and Jamie Wyeth. Open all year, daily 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; closed winter Mondays and Tuesdays. Available for special events.
